Speculative study

The Row

A speculative study in restraint, material, and silhouette, developed as a creative-direction exercise rather than commissioned client work.

01

Brief

Explore how a luxury fashion language can be built through material intelligence, controlled composition, and quiet visual tension. This is an independent speculative study and is not presented as commissioned work for The Row.

02

Approach

The study begins with the garment as structure: leather, seam, weight, and negative space. Creative direction and image development were held to a reduced palette so that proportion and texture could carry the frame.

Generative AI was used as one image-development method within a broader art-direction process, with selection and finish guided by photographic judgment rather than by the tool alone.

03

Output

A campaign-world prototype that establishes tone, framing, and material cues for a larger still and motion system.

Legacy source context

The Row has built one of the most valuable brands in fashion almost entirely without traditional advertising. Where other houses buy impressions, The Row invests in the image itself. Lookbooks shot on film by photographers like Jamie Hawkesworth, developed and printed by hand, distributed on their own terms. The question this campaign asked was whether that same restraint could extend into new territory. A physical book celebrating craft and craftsman given as a gift to clients, not sold. A woman moving through her morning, felt but never seen. Architecture and fabric placed side by side with nothing between them but a name. Three territories, each built on the same principle the brand has always operated from. The Row communicates through what it chooses not to say. The viewer who understands will understand. Creative direction and campaign concept developed using AI image generation to visualize the territories. Developed as speculative work. Unprompted and unaffiliated with The Row.
